Registration with the Department of Labor to receive the EPF number

To receive the Provident Fund (EPF) registration number, Firms are required to register with the Department of Labor. This fund is under the control of the government and managed by the Central Bank of Sri Lanka. There is no necessity to separately register with the Employees Trust Fund (ETF) as ETF utilizes the exact EPF number for the monthly contributions.

Organizations are required to pay gratuities to staff employed for over five years. This is not applicable for firms that possess lesser than fifteen employees. Also for private sector employees, the pension scheme is not applicable. It is a must that businesses engaged in activities deemed as dangerous should get Special Factories Ordinance checkups.
